Project Title: Sensory coding in the larval zebrafish gut.
Abstract:

I am interested in understanding how the gut processes sensory information from ingested substances. Sensory enteroendocrine cells in the gut release a variety of hormones, neurotransmitters, and peptides, however little is known how these cells detect and respond to diverse stimuli. As a Grass fellow, I will perform population calcium imaging and single cell electrophysiology in zebrafish larvae to understand sensory coding principles of the gut and the functional diversity of enteroendocrine cells. Together these data will provide an understanding of how distinct and physiologically relevant sensory stimuli are encoded in the peripheral nervous system.
