Project Title: A stress-induced arousal-promoting circuit in Drosophila.
Abstract:

Sleep is a fundamental state of animal behavior, and disrupted sleep, linked to psychological stressors, is a significant public health problem. A critical question is whether the brain arousal state can be directly influenced by stress. My goal as a Grass Fellow is to characterize an arousal promoting circuit under stress conditions. I will use both in vivo functional imaging method and in vitro electrophysiology method to pinpoint the molecular mechanism that integrates stress and arousal.
