Testimonial

As this is the year for my retirement from Emory University, it is also a time of reflection on my scientific career, which in many ways began with the Grass Fellowship at Woods Hole in the 1970s. I worked with Paul De Weer that year, and we published a paper on observations of electrogenic properties of the Na/K pump and the influence of ATP/ADP. My wife, Jan, also immensely enjoyed that summer, and we often speak of it as one of our fondest memories.

The Grass Fellowship allowed me to extend my research into a new and exciting area- cephalopod neurobiology and behavior. Although this area is not the main focus of my present research, it was instrumental in helping me land my first job at Dalhousie University, famous for its marine biology.
