TestimonialThe Grass Fellows program was my first introduction to research in Woods Hole and was a transformative experience. The scintilating scientific atmosphere was completely captivating and changed the future course of my life and that of my family. The program opened my eyes to new scientific questions, new methods, new colleagues and collaborators, and the best seminars and presentations I have ever had the good fortune to attend. I recall especially fondly one Friday Evening Lecture given by Bob Barlow, when there was electricity in the air, literally - the crisp crackling of action potentials from a neuron in a horseshoe crab as they were modulated by light and by octopamine. One consequence of my fellowship experience was to continue to seek the stimulating confines of the MBL as a home to pursue summer research, which I have been fortunate to do for the past 22 years. My children have literally grown up in Woods Hole and experienced its scientific excitement, and feel more at home there then they do in their Chicago digs.
